US Zalmy Khalilzad envoy, COAS discuss regional security matters

RAWALPINDI (92 News) – US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad called on Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the matters related to regional stability and Afghan peace process were discussed during the meeting.

The ISPR said that the US envoy appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for Afghanistan peace process.

COAS Gen Bajwa reiterated that peace in Afghanistan is important for Pakistan and assured continued efforts for bringing peace and stability in the region.

“Afg peace process discussed. Visiting dignitary appreciated Pak’s efforts for Afg peace process. COAS reiterated that peace in Afg is imp for Pak and assured cont efforts for bringing peace and stability in the region,” the ISPR Director General Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor tweeted.

 

Earlier on Monday, Representatives from the Afghan Taliban met officials from the United States in the United Arab Emirates, in another bid to find shared ground to end the 17-year war in Afghanistan. The meeting also included representatives from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and UAE.

Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal confirmed that the talks were held in UAE, and said Pakistan hoped for an end to bloodshed in Afghanistan.
