Waseem Akhtar admits involvement in May 12 tragedy: police
KARACHI (92 News) – Police have on Wednesday filed a challan in Anti-Terrorism Court against Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) mayor-designate Waseem Akhtar and 56 others in case regarding May 12 tragedy on the streets of Karachi.
During the proceedings, police filed a challan against Karachi’s mayoral candidate, Kamran Farooqi, Muhammad Adnan among 56 persons stating that Wasim Akhtar confessed to involvement in violent clashes on May 12.
According to the challan, a criminal namely Aslam Kala was arrested on Akhtar’s identification and weapons seized from his possession were found to be used on May 12.
The challan stated that concrete evidence against the MQM leader.
Earlier, police have apprehended 11 accused including fire brigade personnel involved in the May 12 carnage during a raid conducted in Malir area.
SSP Malir Rao Anwar said that on a tip off, police carried out a raid in district Malir and detained 11 accused including fire brigade personnel involved in the May 12 tragedy.
The arrested accused include Mahmood Kkhan, Arshad Baig, Zulfiqar Ali, Muhammad Abbas, Zafar Ali, Nazam Akhtar, Zikar, Abdullah Islam, Sohail Rana, Muhammad Nasir and Farhatullah.
