Waseem Akhtar, Arshad Vohra elected Karachi mayor & deputy mayor

KARACHI (92 News) – MQM’s Waseem Akhtar was elected the Karachi mayor on Wednesday.

According to unofficial results, Arshad Vohra has also been elected the deputy mayor. They bagged 198 votes, out of total 294.

Talking to the media after his victory, Waseem Akhtar announced to take all along with him. He asked Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, DG Rangers Maj-Gen Bilal Akbar and IG Sindh AD Khawaja to guide him.

“We will resolve the problems of Karachi jointly. I am not the mayor of the MQM, but Karachi. I will go to all parties to consult them and get their advices to improve the condition of the city,” he said.

The mayor-elect said that he was a political prisoner and the cases against him had no value. “The people have pronounced their verdict,” he said.


Moreover, MQMs’ Nayyer Raza and Rukanuddin have been elected chairman and vice-chairman of Korangi District.

On the other hand, Malik Fayyaz and Mansoor Sheikh, candidates of the PTI and the PPP, have been elected chairman and vice-chairman of South District.
