Whether Zardari was so naive that he got duped by me: Nawaz Sharif
LAHORE (92 News) – Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday said that former president Asif Zardari’s recent statement was unbecoming a leader of a large mainstream party.
In a statement on Tuesday, he said that whether Zardari was so naive that he got duped by him. He said he had resented Zardari’s extreme statement about the establishment in 2015 and communicated his position the same day. He said he had then cancelled a scheduled meeting with Zardari the next day.
“Being occupied with his respect-the-vote campaign, I do not want to engage in a war of words with the former president,” he said.
The PML-N Quaid said that the PPP leader should not try to rewrite history. He said it was strange that Zardari had not told people then that his statement had been prompted by Nawaz.
Nawaz Sharif said that he had rejected Zardari’s proposal to condone illegal actions by Gen Musharraf through an act of the parliament. He also said that Zardari was aware that Sharif had had nothing to do with the NAB action against Dr Asim Hussain and other Sindh government members.
He said that now that Zardari had accused him of being the author of his statements in the past, he might as well identify the author of his statements today.
Nawaz said his party had agreed to support the PPP government provided that it impeached Musharraf, restored the deposed judges and abolished the 17th Constitutional Amendment.
The three-time prime minister said Zardari should heed the writing on the wall, focus on the upcoming elections and refrain from futile mudslinging.
