Will shut OLMT-like projects if health, education depts don’t improve: CJP

LAHORE (92 News) – Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, while hearing the suo motu notice on the state of public hospitals in Punjab, has warned that he will close down all projects, including Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT), if health and education sectors are not improved.

A two-member bench, headed by the chief justice and comprising Justice Ejazul Ahsan, is hearing matters of public welfare at the SC Lahore Registry.

The CJP also ordered the government to submit the report after having audit of the hospitals.

He also took notice of Punjab government’s doling out ads, seeking the record of expenditures incurred on the advertisement campaign within 10 days.

The CJP also ordered young doctors not to observe strikes.

During the suo motu notice on provision of clean water case, the CJP expressed his anger at the Punjab chief secretary when the water taken from his chamber was found contaminated. “People will not vote for us. If the Sindh CM can be summoned to court, then why not the Punjab CM,” he remarked.

He said questioned why the people are forced to take poison. “The work to be done by the government has been handed over to private companies,” he observed.

CJP Saqib Nisar also took notice of the closure of roads in the city. “The closure of roads is violation of the basic rights,” he remarked.

The DG LDA submitted a report on Hameed Latif Hospital, saying the construction of the hospital as illegal.

The court ordered the DG LDA to demolish the hospital if it is illegal.

The court also stopped all courts from staying illegal marriage halls.
