Girl raped & set ablaze by cops dies; case registered on father’s complaint
MUZAFFARGARH (92 News) – A girl who was raped and later set ablaze by cops died at Nishtar Hospital on Tuesday.
The police had arrested her on theft charge when three policemen took her to a dera and raped her on October 4.
Sonia complained to the police station and later the DPO, but no one listened to her. She was returning from the police station when the culprits set her ablaze. She was shifted to Sadr Hospital, Muzaffargarh.
Sonia, a resident of Dinpur, told newsmen in Sadr Hospital that she was married to Mushtaq Hussain two years ago.
She said that Inspector Noor Hussain, Constables Qayyum and Manna had raped her. “I have been continuously visiting SHO Munir Hussain for registration of the case, but he did not do so,” she added.
Later, she was shifted to Nishtar Hospital where she died.
The Punjab chief minister and IGP took notice of the incident and ordered the arrest of the accused.
A case has been registered against the accused on the complaint of the victim’s father.
The Muzaffargarh police have arrested Inspector Noor Hussain, while raids are being conducted to arrest the accused.
Earlier in another incident on January 5, 2014, Amna, a college student, was kidnapped and raped by five policemen in Jatoi.
The police registered the case, but did not arrest them. Later, investigation officers declared the culprits innocent.
She approached all the police officers concerned for justice, but no one listened to her. Later, she self-immolated in front of the police station. She received severe burns and was shifted to Nishtar Hospital where she died on March 14.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and suspended the policemen. Nobody knows how the case was dealt with afterwards.
