World Kabaddi Cup 2015 cancelled due to disturbance in Punjab

CHANDIGARH (92 News) – The Kabaddi World Cup that was to be held in the Indian state of Punjab from November 14 to 28, has been cancelled amid statewide protests over sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

The Punjab deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the sixth edition of the tournament was cancelled as a mark of grief over the recent incidents of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji.

It is worth mentioning here that schools, colleges and transport services are affected by the protests over sacrilege of religious texts after first such incident was reported from Kotkapura in Faridkot.

It is pertinent to mention here that World Kabaddi Cup 2015 was scheduled to be held from November 14 to 28, 2015 in venues across the state.


A series of incidents of desecration of the Sikh holy book followed by protests by religious orgainsations, including hardliners, has put Punjab on boil recently.
