Committee constituted to review increase in monthly gas bills

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The federal government has constituted a committee to review the matter of increase in monthly gas bills. According to a notification, the committee will consist of four senior officers of Ministry of Power to be led by Sher Afghan Khan. Other members are Shahid Yousaf, Imran Ahmed and Manager of SNGPL. The committee will review the reasons behind the increase in the gas bills and will also suggest recommendations to improve the gas billing system. On the other hand, the protest of consumers , against the hike in prices of gas, proved fruitful. Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) delayed the decision to increase the prices of gas from 10 to 35 per cent temporarily.

Taking notice of hike in gas bills over 92 News, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has directed Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Ghulam Sarwar Khan to conduct an inquiry into the matter. In a statement, Imran Khan said it is inappropriate to shift additional burden of gas prices to consumers. Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan ordered to remove the managing directors of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). Federal Minister for Information on Wednesday confirmed that the prime minister had ordered for the removal of managing directors from their posts after the inquiry report held them responsible for the gas crisis. Fawad Chaudhry said that an inquiry committee constituted by the prime minister to ascertain the reason of gas shortage submitted its report on Tuesday. He also said that in view of the report the premier has immediately removed the heads of Sui Southern and Sui Northern from their posts, the information minister said.
