ISLAMABAD (92News) - An Israeli newspaper, The Jerusalem Post, claims that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan can play a central role in changing both public opinion and military policy towards Israel.

The newspaper says that PTI founder Imran Khan is in favour of establishing relations with Israel while the Pakistan Army and other politicians are against it.

According to The Jerusalem Post, Imran Khan made strong political rhetoric against Israel in public but internally expressed his desire to normalise relations with Israel. Imran Khan is a like-minded politician for Israel.

The Jerusalem Post further claims that Imran Khan's substantial success in the recent elections provides an opportunity to reassess Pakistan-Israel relations.

Pakistan's Israel-friendly foreign policy has strategic advantages, but it always faces strong resistance from Pakistan's military establishment, the Israeli newspaper said.

The Jerusalem Post further claims that the military establishment of Pakistan has long prevented normalisation of relations with Israel.

“A change in leadership would most probably also be needed for any resolution to move forward, and figures like Khan could very well be central in changing both public opinion and military policy alongside of course, the continuous evolution of regional dynamics,” the Israeli newspaper emphasises.

The Jerusalem Post says about the US election that Donald Trump's return to the White House can speed up the process of improving Pakistan-Israel relations, adding that the Trump administration can encourage countries like Pakistan to normalise relations with Israel through diplomatic and economic benefits.

The Israeli newspaper further claims that in the context of Imran Khan's growing influence and economic crisis, it remains to be seen to what extent Pakistan can change its traditional hostility towards Israel.

It adds that recognising Israel would bring significant economic benefits to Pakistan, including agriculture, cyber security, defence, and potential financial investment.
